Gustav Lauritz Clausen
Gustav Lauritz Clausen (10.8.1858 i Kristiansund - 10.4.1937 i Chicago) var sønn av skredder i Kristiansund Peter Clausen og Wilhelmine Caroline Svendsen. Gift 3. september 1881 i Chicago med Eleonora Wilhelmine (Lanna) Brun (26.12.1891-26.7.1991) , datter av... Barn: Elmer Lawrence Clausen (16.7.1889 i Chicago- 25.12.1966).

Gustav Lauritz Clausen ble uteksaminert ved Trondhjems tekniske læreanstalt 1879. Han emigrerte til Amerika 1879. Var fra 1880-81 ingeniør ved anlegg i byen Pullmann i Illinois. 1881-82 ved California Southern Railroad, 1882-83 ved Hennepin Canal Survey. 1883-87 stadsingeniør ved Hydepark Illinois. Fra 1887-1907 egen ingeniørforretning i Chicago. Superintendent of Chicago Sewer departement 1895-97.

Clausen took part in the construction of a number of the buildings at both the Columbian and Century of Chicago`s expositions. Finally, he figured in the planning of Chicago`s eleborate underground freight tunnell system.

Obituary;

G.L. GLAUSEN, 78, VETERAN SEWER CONTRACTOR, DIES Gustave L. Clausen, sewer contractor, died yesterday in his home at 1036 Sheridan road. Mr. Clausen, who was born in Norway 78 years ago, had lived in Chicago since he was 22 years old. Mr. Clausen began his career as assistant engineer during construction of the sewer system and treatment plant in Pullman. He served as village engineer for Hyde Park, and in 1887 he entered business for himself. He designed sewer systems for Blue Island, Elmhurst, and other cities and villages in the Chicago area. From 1894 to 1897 he was superintendent of the Chicago sewer department. Mr. Clausen is survived by his widow, Lenna, and a son, Elmer Clausen of Evanston. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the chapel at 4152 Sheridan road. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery. Source: Chicago Tribune, 13 April 1937, Page 16.
