Guvernør i Wisconsin Orland Steen Loomis (2.11.1893 i – 7.12.1942 i Mauston) var sønn av Morgan Orlando Loomis (1862-11.8.1926) og Clara Augusta Steen (1. mars 1867 i Mauston, Juneau County - 23.november 1923 sst ), hun var datter av Charles Tovald Peter “Carl” Steen (16.1.1834 i Norderhov- 25.9.1900 i Mauston, Juneau County, Wisconsin) og Caroline Karen (Carrie) H. Howe (10.12.1833 i Ullensaker - 25.1.1916 i Mauston, Juneau County, Wisconsin).

Peter Cornielius Olsen Steen also known as “Peder Olsen Frozedegaard”. Came to America with wife and children in 1854. It took thirteen weeks by sailing ship to cross the Atlantic during which time they encountered a hurricane. They sailed from Norway to England to Quebec, Canada. Then went to Wiconsin where they settled in Waupun for two years, then moved to Necedah and then to Mauston in 1864. They moved from Mauston about 1882 to Steen, Clinton Twnshp Rock County, Minnesota The family took the name Steen from the farm, Stein in Hole, where the family lived since Ole Pederson moved there from Noderhov 17 Nov 1837.

Han ble gift 22.6.1918 med Florence Marie Ely (24.7.1893 i Mauston, Juneau County, Wisconsin - 17,2,1981), datter av John "Andrew" Solomon Ely (25.8.1832 i Rotenshirmbach, Germany - 27.9.1924 i Mauston, Juneau, Wisconsin) og Dorothea "Dora" Gujer 5.4.1849 i Schwezenbach, Switzerland - 1.7.1903 i Mauston, Juneau, Wisconsin)

3 Barn: Robert Morgan Loomis (31.8.1922 i Mauston, Juneau, Wisconsin- 28.7.2014 i Westborough, Mass.),John Elmer Loomis (25.4.1924-), Laura Jean Loomis ().

Orland Steen Loomis ble valgt til guvernør i Wisconsin, men døde kort tid etter valget slik at han ikke tiltrådte stillingen.

Orland Steen Loomis var medlem av Sons of Norway lodge Idun 74 .

Orland Loomis was born in Mauston, Wisconsin. He received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1917. He was stationed in France during World War I, after which he returned to Mauston to practice law, serving as the city attorney from 1922 to 1931. He was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1928 and the Wisconsin State Senate in 1930. From 1935 to 1937 Loomis was director of the Rural Electrification Administration in Wisconsin. He was then elected Attorney General of Wisconsin, serving from 1937 to 1939.

After narrowly losing the 1940 election for Governor of Wisconsin as a Progressive, Loomis ran again in 1942, defeating the incumbent Governor Julius Heil. He died suddenly of a heart attack a month before he was to take office, and the Republican Lieutenant Governor Walter Samuel Goodland served all of Loomis's term as acting governor.

Orland Steen Loomis was buried in Mauston. Loomis Road (WIS 36) in Milwaukee County is named after him.

Loomis married Florence Marie Ely on June 22, 1918. They had three children.

In 1943, the Liberty Ship SS Orland Loomis was named after him.
