Sivilingeniør Thorvald Yttervik (am. Ottervik) (24.10.1896 i Stamsund- mars 1980, gravlagt i Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania,) var sønn av kjøpmann Jørgen Yttervik (10.10.1865 i Buksnes - 25.8.1941) og Jensine Emilie Eliassen (22.11.1863 i Borge- 18.12.1940).

Thorvald Yttervik tok eksamen artium ved Bodø offentlige skole 1915. Eksamen ved Maskinavdelingen NTH 1922.

Emigrerte til USA 1923.

Gift 31.7.1928 i USA med Dorothy Jane Van Tine (24.3.1901 i Pennsylvania- april 1984 i Oakmont, Allegheny, Pennsylvania), datter av George Mead VanTine (21.5.1868 i Pennsylvania - 17.1.1966 i New Brighton, Beaver, Pennsylvania) og Florence Isabelle Van Tine (26 Dec 1874 -20.11.1942 i Harmony, Butler, Pennsylvania) .

Barn: Eric Van Tine Ottervik (28.3.1938 i Pennsylvania- 21.12.2018)

Thorvald Yttervik arbeidet som konstruktør ved forskjellige kraftanlegg og ingeniørfirmaer i Pittsburgh og Chicago fra 1923.

Eric Van Tine Ottervik (80) of Bethlehem, died December 2, 2018 after a long battle with several illnesses. He was predeceased in 2016 by his very beloved wife of 30 years, Barbara. Eric was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1938 to Dorothy (Van Tine) and Thorvald Ottervik. He graduated from Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts in 1955 as valedictorian. He then graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1959 in physics and from the University of Pittsburgh with an MA in 1961 and a PhD in 1966 (both in English). While at Carnegie Tech, he was captain and MVP of both the track and cross-country teams and a two-time Conference champion in the two mile. In 1966, he began his career in administration at Lehigh University and in 1974 became the University's youngest vice president. Over the next 13 years, he served in several vice-presidential roles and in the mid-eighties was the prime force in the installation of Lehigh's first-in-the-nation combination of a voice and data network, a microcomputer store, and provision of a personal computer to every faculty member. In 1988, he left Lehigh and went to Adelphi University on Long Island and served there for 10 years as a vice president, retiring in 1998. He and Barbara eventually moved back to Bethlehem, where they became residents on the same street where they had lived over 20 years before. As avid collectors, they amassed (and later donated) large collections of Czech and Japanese art. They traveled often to the Czech Republic (Barbara's homeland), London, and Paris, and cruised widely in the Caribbean. Theater aficionados, they also often visited the Shaw and Shakespeare Festivals in Canada.SURVIVORS: Eric is survived by his two daughters Jennifer Ottervik (and her son Miles) and Kathleen Jameson (and her daughter Bella), and a host of cousins in Norway and the Pittsburgh/Cleveland area.SERVICES: Service will be private for family only. Funeral arrangements are by the John F. Herron Funeral Home in Bethlehem.CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edgeboro Moravian Church in Bethlehem.
